Some of My Favourite Fenty Beauty Products

So if you know me well enough, it’s pretty evident that I’m obsessed with Rihanna’s ever so popular makeup line, everything just works so well. The prices may be a bit pricey for some consumers, and just right for others, but I do guarantee that these products are completely worth it. You can really tell that Miss Fenty herself took the time and dedication to get the products efficient and well done. If you follow her on social media, you can observe that before the launch of the beauty line in the fall of 2017, that Bad Gal Riri herself was wearing some of the products to test them out (for example the Stunna Red Lip paint) before customers wearing them. And as this icon couldn’t be just a legend in music, this line has made her the richest female musician.

My favourite quote that I’ve heard from someone in person couldn’t be more factual:

In Rihanna we trust.

Here are some of my favourite products from this line. All of the products are hyperlinked so you can click and buy them on the website.

1. Pro FILT’R Soft Matte Long wear Foundation ($45.00)

What really grabbed me into Sephora to buy from this brand was the most talked about foundation from Fenty Beauty. Even though in the past, there are makeup lines that include all women, especially with brown skin, including the deeper tones, Fenty Beauty resurrected this topic in which some makeup brands do ignore. Having 40 shades is creating a new normal for all women to feel included when coming to finding the right foundation. I had to wait three weeks, both online and in person, to finally purchase the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte foundation as the tan and deep tones were sold out. Talk about setting a tone for other makeup brands (pun intended). I use the shade in 370 which is labeled as for tan skin tones with warm and neutral undertones.

2. Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer ($24.00)

Before wearing this lip gloss, it had been at least 10 years since I’d worn any sort of lip gloss as I graduated to wearing lipstick. What I love the most about this product is it leaves your lips soft and moisturized while keeping those lips glossy.

3. Stunna Lip Paint Collection ($32.00)

Don’t you just want a lipstick to remain on all throughout the day. Stunna lip paint will do just that. Yes, it is a matte lipstick, but this does not dry out your lips and the colours are stunning to say the least. You can tell that there was not only a lot of care, dedication and perfection when conducting this product in particular, but also some fun induced with colours along with the names attached to some of them. My favourite colours are Unlocked: the vibrant pink shade, Undefeated: a sultry purple shade (and also a similar colour to an eggplant), Unattached: a bright coral shade, Unveil: a chocolate brown colour and my favourite on days when I feel like being more natural, and last but not least and certainly my favourite shade due to it being red, my favourite colour, along with the versatility since this shade is supposed to be flattering for women of any skin tone, Uncensored is a standout colour for all of the right reasons. The visual of this lip paint resembles a shape similar to nail polish and it’s so pretty to look at, like art waiting to be displayed and used. They call it the universal red, and it truly is a stunna if I may say so myself.

4.  Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick ($24.00)

This I will admit is the only colour that I have from this lip line because the colour really stood out for me. I can’t rave anymore on the name of this deep, navy blue shade call Clapback. Who doesn’t like a good clapback? It is a contrast from the usual lipstick colours and the complete opposite of what’s known as a basic girl/bitch (just saying). If you’re in the mood for avant-garde makeup, Clapback is up your alley.

5. Killawatte Freestyle Highlighter ($48.00)

Highlighters on a whole is quite versatile. You can use it as a blush, an eye shadow, or combine it with your lipstick to add some glamour. Killawatte does not disappoint.  Yes this highlighter in particular is quite pricey, but this is worth every penny as there is a colour for everyone. My favourite colours, as there are mostly two in one, is the Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule. It gives that extra lift that your skin needs. Your skin will thank for this.

The Importance of Fenty Beauty

Screen Shot 2017-08-25 at 1.11.29 PMAt a young age I did not like my skin, I hated it. I was not dark skinned but I also was not light enough and this was not only apparent in my life but also in the media where not much representation was displayed. As little as four I would scratch my skin thinking that the brown would go away.

I did not start wearing makeup until I was in college. Yes when there was graduations from both elementary school along with high-school, I felt like dressing up, but the bare face was what I was comfortable with. In high-school, I was comfortable in my skin, yes I even loved it, the teenage years was a time where you are trying to find who you are and these were one of those ‘coming of age’ moments… brown skinned and all.

When considering the process of shopping for makeup, there was this instinct that there would be a struggle with finding the right shade of foundation. This was always proven to be correct. These makeup artists would always go for either the lightest shade or the darkest one not even matching the tone of my skin which is surprisingly difficult but I always laughed at the process because they were convinced that the foundation looked amazing on me, but at home was another story.

For me foundation is almost like going out on a date, if it doesn’t work, you move on to the next one, if it does work then you will keep this around and see how this unfolds. Trust me, I have been through so much foundation that I can write a comedy sketch. From ones where I had mix with my mothers because the shade had red undertones to others which would oxidize less then half a work shift or when I had to be on camera for school in journalism… I knew I deserved better. Then there were foundations created by black women but not distributed near where I lived, this was a daily struggle.

I did find my match with Makeup Forever which not only is oil free but has a matte finish for my oily skin, but then Rihanna came out with her Fenty Beauty and that was a wrap.

I almost freaked out when I found out that the superstar released 40 shades ranging from pale complexions to dark… I needed to head to Sephora. At first I thought this was too good to be true, after all I been through a lot of shades in this life (pun intended). Also if I wanted to commit with her line of foundation, there had to be some commitment involved because I was not going to buy this out of impulse. With that being said, I loved it. The foundation was light in feeling but with the right amount of coverage for my oily-acne skin. A great feature for this product is that it is cruelty free… there was something quite revolutionary about the whole release by Rihanna and the timing could not be any better.

A few may say that this is just foundation, but like myself, others beg to differ. I seen wonderful posts whether on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or any other post on the internet about how this foundation has changed them. This is not even women who have darker complexions, but women who are pale or even who have Albinism.  Wearing foundation is about finding the right match while feeling beautiful along with being accepted and noticed by the beauty industries. Rihanna and other people who are inclusive to the standards of beauty has set not only and example but the stage for major makeup brands to include all people when releasing a foundation, bronzer or anything dealing with makeup. The beautiful thing about this is that I am right now wearing 410 but when winter comes along, I get a little bit lighter, I can choose another shade from her line.

There is not just one form of beauty, all shades are amazing. I truly believe that Rihanna payed attention and catered to all shades creating what is truly unique and also… skin deep.
