Basic Girl Banking: Thoughts I have When I Spend Money on Clothing

I have a confession to make.

First off, it’s evident that I love fashion since this blog caters to topics on dealing with style, etc., but I can’t stand shopping. Let me explain, I can go in a store find something that I like, claim that the item is mine without purchasing it, and get a rush as it goes in the shopping bag, but then I want to leave. I love went it’s short and sweet plus to the point, but my patience and attention span runs thin when in the mall in one space for a long amount of time. My mother can attest to this the most since she forewarns me which is what I need, but that does not mean that I don’t compromise… fashion is art so if I spend my money it better look good. Here are the thoughts I have when I spend money on clothing.

1. Do I really need to buy this?

This thought runs through my mind pretty much anytime I buy something in the mall that’s more pricey. I will only spend three digits on a pair of shoes that I know will last for at least five years because if not then I put it back and move on.

2. How will this look with the rest of my items in the closet?

Some accessories, clothing and shoes may be a stand out to the rest of your wardrobe.. sometimes for the good, at times for the bad. I’ve seen things that just won’t work with what I have. It happens.

3. How often will I wear this?

This goes hand in hand with the first question, it needs to be worth something in order for me to even consider buying the addition to my wardrobe.

4. If it’s expensive, I pretend that I can afford it nodding my head.

If I see a dress, fur coats (faux fur always) or anything that cost $600, I pretend to act bougie in the store and nod my head but leave seconds later.

5. This has my name written all over it.

Have you ever seen an outfit that just screamed you? I love moments like this because the decision is ten times more easier for me to go ahead and buy it on an impulse. Don’t judge I just know what I want.

6. It’s not the time to see how much I’ve spent in my account.

Usually I don’t go mad crazy on spending my money in the mall, but sometimes I like to treat myself so I don’t feel like looking at my account, there’s always another day for that. I’m not in denial… this just makes me more aware.

7. I can’t believe they’re playing this song in the store.

Have you ever been in a store and be surprised when the music was playing? It gets me every time I enter a somewhat snotty place and trap music lingers in the store; sometimes that’s the only reason why I’m in the store to be honest.

8. Okay it’s time to go now.

Patience is virtue, but not for me. When I know that I have everything that I need, it’s time to go elsewhere.
